Atheist and Agnostic Pro-Life League Membership Form

To be eligible for AAPL membership, you must meet these three requirements:

1) be an avowed atheist, agnostic, or other nontheist

Atheism is the absence of theism (belief in gods) and implies no other beliefs. An atheist is simply one who lacks belief in theism. Because any lack of theism is technically atheism, common usage necessitates the following definitions for the purposes of AAPL membership.
A weak atheist lacks belief in theism but is simply skeptical of and doesn't necessarily deny the existence of gods. A weak atheist would say, "I don't believe in gods."
A strong atheist not only lacks belief in theism but asserts that theistic claims are false or that gods do not exist. A strong atheist would say, "I don't believe in the existence of gods."
An agnostic claims neither belief nor disbelief in theism and asserts that such knowledge is outside human understanding.
A nontheist lacks belief in theism but doesn't apply a specific label to this lack of belief.

Note well: If you subscribe to any religion or to any concept of deity, you are ineligible for AAPL membership.

2) oppose abortion and desire its abolition (with or without exceptions)

Every abortion involves the destruction of an innocent human being's life, so abortion should be used, if at all, only in extreme cases. At a minimum, abortion should never be used as a substitute for contraception or a fallback position for irresponsible behavior. Accordingly, abortions for "convenience" should be illegal.

Note well: If you subscribe to the current legal status of abortion as instituted in 1973 by Roe v. Wade, you are ineligible for AAPL membership.

3) support nonviolence as the sole legitimate means of achieving the goals of the pro-life movement

Terrorism, murder, arson, and other horrific crimes are neither appropriate expressions of political protest nor effective means of political change. Anti-abortion extremist violence is the absolute negation of the work and goals of the pro-life movement. We oppose violence against all innocent human beings. We recognize the preborn child as an innocent human being deserving the protection that such status demands. We know that violence does nothing to secure the rights of the preborn. We reject violence as immoral and ineffectual.

Note well: If you subscribe to any form of violence or terrorism as a means of ending the current legal status of abortion, you are ineligible for AAPL membership.
